Home Learning 2021

Your World Book Day token to download!

Staff have been reviewing the huge range of online resources currently available to assist you with home learning. You will find a selection of our recommended ones in the 'Websites' section of the class page.

Links to websites relevant to weekly planning will be available on each weekly learning sheet in order that they can be easily accessed.

Responsible Internet Use and Esafety

As children may now be accessing the Internet and online activities more frequently, please take the opportunity to share the 'acceptable use' rules we follow in school. These can be found below. Please read and discuss them with your children and explain what they should do if they come across something that makes them feel sad or angry. The children have taken part in Internet Safety Day. Parental guidance, documents and links are available on the website under 'Esafety'.

Safer Internet Day 2021

This year in the UK, Safer Internet Day explores reliability online. The campaign focuses on knowing what to trust online and supporting young people to question, challenge and change the online world. The internet has an amazing range of information and opportunities online and can help us see the world from different points of view, but how do we separate fact from fiction, the genuine from the misleading? How do we decide what to believe online and what is the impact of dealing with fake content and experiences online? Join us this Safer Internet Day in helping to create an internet we can trust.

Explore our ESafety page for more information.

Week beginning 1st March

Happy St. David's Day Cherry Champions! Do you know which country Saint David is the patron saint of? We've been making some daffodils for my Dad as he comes from this country.

It's a busy week this week as it's also World Book Day on Thursday! You'll find your World Book Day voucher to print off at the top of this page. If you'd like to share a favourite book in Friday's assembly we'd love to see it!

We're so excited about next week and can't wait to see you all. There are some signs of spring waiting for you when you arrive.

Congratulations to you all, your parents, grandparents and other family members for working so hard during lockdown. You're all brilliant!

This week there are three opportunities for you to meet with us online:

1. Maths Games on Wednesday from 10.00am.

You will need a dark pen or felt tip and some A4 paper. Please prepare a bingo board (photo below). Please write eight numbers on the bingo board that are part of the five times table. They can be in any order and must be between 5 and 100. Please also have your 'hundred square' available from your original home learning pack. These can be downloaded for free from Twinkl.

2. Reading Comprehension on Thursday between 9.00am and 9.20am and a second group between 9.40am and 10.00am.

You will receive an email to let you know which time your reading comprehension session will be taking place.

3. Class Assembly on Friday at 1.15pm.

If you have any favourite books that you'd like to share we'd love to see them.

We will send you the invites shortly before the meetings. Please remember to have your microphones off to begin with. We can't wait to see you!

Week beginning 22nd February

Hello Cherry Champions! We hope you all had a lovely half term and that you managed to do some of your favourite things.

Last week Mrs Taylor cleared out her loft, a job that she has been putting off for a long time! She found some old toys that were her favourites when she was your age! She has also been on lots of walks with Herbie. On one of them she discovered evidence of a fairy tale. Can you guess which one it is?

Week beginning 8th February 2021

It was so lovely to see you all on Friday during our class assembly! It made our day!

Please remember that this week's assembly will be at 11.00am on Thursday. The link will be sent to you shortly beforehand. We would love to see some of your fabulous artwork from this week's home learning when we come together for the assembly.

Tuesday the 9th of February is Safer Internet Day. There is some information about this above and you can find some activities in the ESafety section of the website.

Last week Mrs Sweeney and her family went for a walk to help them relax. While they were out enjoying the fresh air something very funny happened! See if you can spot it in the picture. They were there for quite some time and the wellies had to be rescued too!

We hope you have fun looking at 'You Choose Fairy Tales' this week and can't wait to see you again on Thursday!

Week beginning 1st February 2021

Hello Cherry Champions! We are very much looking forward to seeing you on our screen at 1.15pm on Friday! This will be our assembly time each week.  You will be emailed an invite to the email address sent to your parents 15 minutes before we start. It will help if you can have your camera on and your microphone off to begin with. An adult will be able to help with this and show you what to do. So you can see all your friends you will need to change a couple of settings. You will find a crib sheet below for you to follow.

This week is Children's Mental Health Week and National Story Telling Week, so what a perfect opportunity to relax and read someone a story, or to ask them to read to you!

Mrs Taylor has been relaxing in her spare time by doing things that she really enjoys. She has been painting her bedroom which she has been meaning to do for a long time, playing the piano, listening to music, singing, practising yoga and running. She has also taken Herbie on lots of different walks. He loved the snow and likes to chase snowballs, but can never understand where they go when he bites them!

What do you like to do to make you feel calm and relaxed? Perhaps you draw, paint or play with a pet. Try some of them out this week and decide which of them makes you feel the calmest.

See you on Friday!

Week beginning 25th January 2021

Hello children. We hope that you and your families are safe and well and that you have been enjoying the snow! It was lovely to speak to some of you last week. You all brightened my day! This week we would like you to remember to treat yourselves. It is important to take time for yourselves at the moment and also for your family members too. Plan something for you all to look forward to this week. You could create your very own cinema, play a favourite game or bake something delicious to enjoy. Lucy and Molly had some knickerbocker glories last week. They certainly made them smile!

This week we are looking at 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Mrs Taylor has made her own beanstalk (see Powerpoint below). Perhaps you could have a go at making your own.

Remember how proud we all are of you for trying your best and looking after your families. Get planning those treats!

Week beginning 18th January 2021

We hope that all the Cherry Champions are safe and well and that you enjoyed learning about the traditional tale 'Goldilocks' last week! This week we are looking at 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. There are lots of different learning activities to take part in on this week's home learning sheet. Remember to read the green sections every day to make sure you're practising all those important skills. If you need books from school, please email beoleybooks@gmail.com. They will be available to collect on a Friday 10am - 11am. You will see an extra star this week called the 'Home Learning Enrichment 2021' star. This contains optional extra activities that you might like to have a look at if you have time.

Last week Mrs Taylor enjoyed walking in the Lickey Hills with her dog Herbie. She noticed lots of different footprints in the snow. Have a look at the photos and see if you can work out which animals have left their footprints behind.

After a chilly walk, Mrs Taylor decided to have a go at making her own bear prints. You could try this at home with a potato, some paint and your fingers!

Week beginning 11th January 2021

Hello Cherry Champions! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that you are staying safe. Our home learning over the next few weeks is going to be based on fairy tales, beginning with 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. You'll find a link to a lovely ballet on the home learning sheet below if you need reminding of the story.

Each day we'd like you to try to read, practise your phonics and spelling on Edshed, write your full name and the full date, continue with Numbots and to use your hundred square from your home learning pack to practise recognising numbers and counting. You will find lots of other learning activities for you to complete on the home learning sheets and links to resources that you might want to use. Our recommended websites are in the 'Websites' section of the class page (the second star).

It is also important that you stay active, creative and inquisitive, trying new things when you can. This weekend we made different coloured volcanoes using a plastic bottle, food colouring, white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. You might want to investigate this too!
